Big changes in v0.5.0
G'day or night everybody. I'm not dead, and still working on the new update to crank out some quality shitposting.
This post will address the most exciting changes in the upcoming version 0.5.0
Phone Improvements:
The in-game phone(That exists thanks to the BadMustard's code) received a few, cool changes. The phone itself and the text are a bit bigger which should help people who play in window mode or on a small display read all messages.
There are graphical changes such as a better font, small wifi/battery icons, a better background, and a clearer menu.
In addition to that... You can now name your contacts! This has a few quirks, such as text jumping to another line when the space is overused but overall it should bring a bit of more attachment to your friends in the contact list.
Note: It will need a lot of testing on different PC's and resolutions to see if everything is okay.
Better roaming around the city:
Although I'm a big fan of old-school visual novels and text-based gameplay, many players in the past gave feedback that a better roaming system, clear information on who to visit, and better visualization of locations would be appreciated. And with that a completely new city exploration!
Please keep in mind that everything is subject to change. I'm learning new graphics apps and RenPy itself so things may differ from the final release.
Character icons will help players determine whether or not they can expect new events to happen without searching through menus.
Old tips in the menu are still present as they will still be useful for players who want to see a new story of that particular character.
If anything goes according to the plan, this will affect every character and every place, including times when two characters can be met.
In addition to that, a metro system will be implemented, this will not only serve as a "cool" way of transitioning between events but also help players get a sense of the length that characters beat to get from point A to B. For example, an archery range or any big, isolated place should be away from the town center, etc.
Reworked events:
Of course, besides some mechanics being changed and improved, the main focus was to improve the oldest events, fix the writing, add new scenes, and make the start of the game match the current quality as it's the biggest deterring factor for new players.. Many more screens will be showcased soon for supporters.
All old events will be changed and quite possibly, some new ones will be added to prevent the start of the game and relations from feeling rushed.
Note: Although it will be HIGHLY advised, starting the game from the beginning will not be mandatory. For players who prefer to wait for new content and beach saga, it will be possible to ignore it. Your saves should work without the problem, though you may be confused about why "A" happened.
More information soon! There'll be UI improvements, smaller fixes, and a tone of changes in the old script. Stay tuned for new screenshots from the upcoming version.
